A Last Hurrah

We decided to go away together for a few days. We stayed in a cabin with a fireplace in the woods of Småland. There were bikes for us to borrow and a rowboat. We took hot chocolate with us on the boat since it was cool and cloudy that day, and the sun peeked through the black clouds while we floated calmly in the middle of the small lake. My bike was pink, smaller than the others, and Per exchanged the seat and handlebars for more comfortable ones from another bike. We rode all over the place for miles and miles. Everything smelled like cedar because there were piles of chopped trees all along the roads. There were big black slugs on the sides of the roads, too- just laying there all the time. Riding the bike brought back a lot of memories for me and somehow made me feel young again. Soon I'll go, and I'll think of him fixing that bike for me, how happy he was to watch me ride it, and how it felt to ride around in the forest with him- like tasting a piece of each other's childhoods and finally getting to be there...
